The Isle of Palms is not a gated community, but rather a more "rustic" community with a long oceanfront road and numerous houses on either side. There is a pier, several restaurants, and a grocery store. Both Wild Dunes and I of P are very close to Charleston, SC. Kiawah is more isolated. We have rented homes in Kiawah for many years and now we 5 bedrooms. We have never had a bad experience In Kiawah or Isle of Palms (leaning toward Kiawah at the moment) we'd probably get a villa.
